Studio Series Wreck-Gar (2021)

Studio Series Wreck-Gar package artWhen discussing the Quintesson Trooper a few months ago, we showcased a character from The Transformers: The Movie that was technically neither Autobot nor Decepticon. The movie featured several such characters, in several different contexts. Wreck-Gar is another example. Although he has traditionally been sold as an Autobot, and is typically seen aligned with them in his fictional appearances, Wreck-Gar is in fact the leader of an independent group of Transformers called "Junkions."

Wreck-Gar Vehicle ModeAs the name implies, Junkions are Transformers who seem to be made out of discarded parts. While Wreck-Gar and his fellow Junkions seem to be constantly falling apart at all times, they are in fact extremely resilient, able to reassemble themselves almost immediately, and when one falls off of another, they can simply reverse roles and keep fighting (nearly all of the Junkions seen in the movie seem to turn into motorcycles for some reason, making this vehicle-and-rider swap a simple matter). This Studio Series toy allows kids to recreate that situation if they happen to have more than one Junkion toy (so far as I'm aware, there are three Junkions in the Studio Series line, the others being remolds of Wreck-Gar) by having one ride on top of the other (although I challenge anyone to do the transformations as quickly as the movie depicts them!). I only have this one Studio Series Junkion, myself.

Wreck-Gar robot modeOddly enough, this toy does not have removable limbs, as Studio Series Kup does, despite the ability to reassemble detached parts being well-associated with the Junkions. Presumably, this is because the simple peg structure used by Kup (a "Deluxe" class toy) might result in situations where limbs fall off when they're not supposed to with larger toys (this version of Wreck-Gar is a "Voyager" class toy, a step up from Kup's size). That said, I should mention that several Junkion toys were released with removable parts as part of the later Legacy: Evolution line. Unfortunately, the G1 version of Wreck-Gar, their leader, was not released in that line, and this Studio Series toy remains his most recent release as of the time of this entry (although there is a 2026 Wreck-Gar toy with removable parts, that toy represents his Animated incarnation, and I follow the lead of the TFWiki in treating him as a distinct entity).
